ImageSoon after Tony Rezko's conviction on 16 of 24 charges, Rezko claimed that federal prosecutors (translation: George Bush stooges and GOP operatives) pressured him to tell them things about Barack Obama:

Two months before he was convicted of federal corruption charges, political fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko told his trial judge that "overzealous" prosecutors were pressuring him to tell them about any wrongdoing involving Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama or Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

But in a two-page typed letter, Rezko said he was never involved in any wrongdoing with either of the Democrats and wouldn't make up stories about them in an attempt to benefit himself.

But there's a catch. Now his lawyer says that no meeting with prosecutors ever happened. Rezko said that he wouldn't make up stories about Obama to help himself. It does seem that he would make up stories about himself to help Obama, though.

Obama's friends really care for him. Too bad they are so scary.

Please note, by the way, that the RNC is not calling Senator Obama corrupt, himself: such assessments will not be meaningful, one way or the other, until the indictments come out next Fitzmas Day. What they are calling him is a man who has confessed to having the judgment skills of a stunned tree sloth*, which is much easier to prove, given some of the things that come out of Senator Obama's mouth when his eyes aren't glued to a Teleprompter. Or, as Hot Air notes (H/T to comments section for the video), given Senator Obama's sad tendency to have friends unworthy of his greatness.

Jury reaches guilty verdict in Rezko corruption case

The jury deliberating the fate of former state political powerbroker Antoin "Tony" Rezko has found him guilty on 16 of 24 counts in his corruption trial.

On Monday, jurors had sent Judge Amy St. Eve a note saying it was deadlocked on one of 24 corruption counts charged against Rezko, but the judge sent them back into the jury room, urging them to "make every reasonable effort to reach a verdict" on each individual count. She said each individual count must have a unanimous verdict.

Not sure yet which were the charges that got got, but I'm betting that 16 is enough to make Rezko pay attention when Fitzgerald leans over at a meeting and says "Tell me the magic word, Tony."

Ooh! Do you think that we'll see frog-marching?

Tony Rezko, friend, ally, and fundraiser for self-procralimed Democrat presidential nominee Barack Obama (Democrat-IL) and Gov. Rod Blagojevich (Democrat-IL) was convicted minutes ago on 16 counts of corruption.

"Rezko has known Obama since he entered politics and was involved in a 2005 real estate deal with the Democratic presidential candidate," according to the AP.

The jury deliberating the fate of former state political powerbroker Antoin "Tony" Rezko sent the judge a note today stating it "cannot decide on one count" of the 24 charges filed.

Judge Amy St. Eve responded by reading a standard legal document addressing such situations saying, "you should make every reasonable effort to reach a verdict" on each individual count. She said each individual count must have a unanimous verdict.

She urged jurors to go back into deliberations and give "fair and equal consideration to the facts of the trial."

Jeralyn Merritt of TalkLeft writes that this suggests that the other 23 counts have been resolved. Assuming that's so: is this holdup more indicative of an otherwise guilty verdict, an otherwise innocent verdict, or a mix; and how much longer are they likely to be out?

Today, Barack Obama, gave a speech on the housing crisis. In the speech, he said:

I do not accept an America where Washington’s only message to working people is: “you’re on your own.”

But Barack Obama didn't need Washington when he was buying a house. Because he had a politically connected real estate developer, Tony Rezko, under federal criminal investigation who subsidized his house.

Is that Barack's lesson? That if you aren't lucky enough to know a corrupt real estate developer, you need Washington?

The federal corruption trial that has sent ripples through the administration of Gov. Rod Blagojevich has reached its final stage, and the fate of political insider Antoin "Tony" Rezko is now in the hands of the jury.

The panel that spent more than two months listening to testimony deliberated for about half an hour Tuesday afternoon after closing arguments ended.

If they bring back a guilty verdict, I'll be shocked if it goes to sentencing. Rezko will want to make a deal, and he knows the magic word: "Blagojevich." It's considered impolite to say by many, but everybody reading this knows that Illinois State politics is one happy bipartisan mess of corruption, influence-peddling, bribery, and a wide variety of other activities prosecutable under the RICO Act. It may be too much to hope that flipping Rezko will result in the kind of housecleaning that Jindal is trying down in Louisiana, but at least the cockroaches will scurry - with any luck, some of them out of the USA altogether.

So, Michelle Obama tells a crowd "Barack's a lawyer, I'm a lawyer, everybody we know are lawyers."

Maybe *that* explains why he relies on so many half truths and half facts and denial, non-denails to skirt the issue of whether he is in fact lying. Here's a new one he is going to have a hard time getting out of.

Soren filled you in on Nadmi Auchi, an associate of Saddam Hussein's who helped Saddam in his rise to power. Obama attended a reception for Auchi at Tony Rezko's house. Auchi gave Rezko a bunch of money shortly before Rezko subsidized Obama's house purchase. Auchi later was convicted of fraud in France.

Naturally, Obama denied any association with Auchi and did not "remember" this whole party for Auchi. Yet again, we have an Obama lie.

Dem presidential contender Barack Obama's handlers may be telling the press Obama has NO "recollection" of a 2004 party at influence peddler Tony Rezko's Wilmette house, but a top Sneed source claims Obama not only gave Rezko's guest of honor, Iraqi billionaire Nadhmi Auchi, a big welcome . . . but he made a few toasts!

Some of you are still dwelling on the bit about Michelle Obama saying everyone they know are lawyers. Yeah, that whole "I'm just like you guys" thing is another we can add to the lie list with the Auchi one.

Man I hope this guy beats Hillary.
